What is the Student Visa (Subclass 500)?
The Student Visa (Subclass 500) allows international students to study full-time at a recognized Australian educational institution. You can also work up to 48 hours per fortnight during term, and unlimited hours during scheduled course breaks. This visa covers courses from English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS), vocational training, bachelor’s degrees, to postgraduate research.
Key Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for a Subclass 500 visa, you must:
Hold a genuine enrolment in a full-time course at a CRICOS-registered provider
Show sufficient funds to cover tuition, living costs, travel, and schooling for dependents
Have Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the duration of your stay
Meet English language proficiency requirements (IELTS, PTE, TOEFL, etc.) set by your institution
Be a genuine student, intending to return home once your studies finish
Satisfy character and health requirements
