What is the Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485)?
The Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485) lets international graduates remain in Australia temporarily after finishing their studies. It’s designed to help you gain valuable work experience and kick-start your career here. There are two main streams:
Graduate Work Stream – for graduates with skills and qualifications related to occupations on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).
Post-Study Work Stream – for graduates of Australian bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degrees (regardless of occupation).
Key Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for a Subclass 485 visa, you must:
Hold an eligible Australian qualification (CRICOS-registered) completed in the last 6 months
Be under 50 years of age at time of application
Meet the Australian study requirement: at least two years’ full-time CRICOS study in Australia
Have competent English (IELTS 6.0+ overall or equivalent)
Carry Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the duration of your stay
Meet character and health requirements
Apply within 6 months of your course completion
